Welcome

IOP–HU early career researcher conference

on condensed matter physics

About IOP CAS

The Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the leading research institute in China in condensed matter physics and related fields. Through 95 years of development, IOP has become a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary research organization engaged in research on basic and applied physics. Its current research activities concentrate on condensed matter physics, optical physics, atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics, soft matter physics, and condensed matter theory and computation physics. More Information about IOP can be found at www.iop.cas.cn.

About the conference

The conference is a two–day event which will take place on October 13th–14th in Liyang (near Shanghai & near Suzhou) with an optional visit to IOP Beijing campus on October 15th.

The IOP-HU early career researcher conference is directed at early career researchers looking to present their research and interact with domestic and international condensed matter physicists. The areas of topics can be surrounding condensed matter physics, optical physics, atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics, soft matter physics, condensed matter theory and computation physics, and other related fields. Ten travel awards will cover travel and accommodation expenses for early career researchers.

The conference aims at providing early career researchers with a stimulating environment to discuss current research and pursue further research in China and Germany, aided with available postdoctoral funding opportunities such as the IOP-Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship in Physics, the IOP International Young Scientist Fellowship and the CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative

Day 1: Early career researcher conference

On October 13th, junior postdoctoral candidates, senior PhD candidates and students are welcome to present talks and posters, and learn about opportunities pursuing postdoctoral fellowships at IOP CAS and partner institutes. Each session will be followed by stimulating discussions with principal investigators (PI) at IOP CAS, the Humboldt-University of Berlin (HU Berlin), and other universities and research institutions, both in China and Germany.

Day 2: PI program and discussions with early career researchers

This year on October 14th, the program will feature stimulating talks from distinguished guests on the topics of:

  • Theory and simulation
  • Scanning probe and electron microscopy
  • Magnetism and quantum information

How to apply

Registration and abstract submission can be done with the Registration menu above. Please specify if you would like to visit IOP main campus in Beijing and if you are applying for an overseas travel award.

Note*: every successful registered participant must upload their resume to <Supplementary materials>. (It can be seen when you upload the abstract.)

Overseas travel awards

Ten overseas travel awards comprising the registration fee, accommodation and airfare will be awarded to extraordinary abstracts. It is recommended to prepare a Visa before the travel awards are announced in August 2023.

Conference fee

The conference is free for early career researchers and attending PIs.
